Eat mussels like a true parisian, an art!

Have you ever seen how a real Parisian woman eats the most common of sea foods, mussels? Invite her to dinner at one of the many Léon de Bruxelles scattered around Paris. She will be tempted by the most classic dish on the menu, famous "Moules marinière", served in the traditional casserole with cast-iron lid. She will chat pleasantly with you, sip a glass of cool red wine, not a beer, and will have an indescribable expression of satisfaction when the moules arrive at the table. Now, watch her carefully…

cozze-p1While you take a mussel and open it with both hands until you reveal the mussel, bring it to your mouth and bite it, discarding the empty shell, she, the véritable parisienne, will, with unparalleled class, select a mussel and hold it between her index finger and thumb, taking advantage of its ability to open and close elastically.

Only then will she eat the tasty prey as if it were caviar or foie gras and (watch this move!), she will not discard the empty shell but will hold it in her right hand to use immediately after as a natural pincer to extract the next mussel from its shell. And so on, until the casserole is empty. All with the nonchalance of a princess.

cozze-p2And the empty shells? If you expect her to split and throw them away, you will be disappointed. Your guest will not split the two shells but, keeping them together, will arrange one empty mussel after another on the plate to create a harmonious and voluptuous decoration, thus transforming a pile of waste into a small work of art. Believe me, it's a small spectacle worth seeing at least once in your life.

Bonne soirée, Maxime

Maxime - Art & Culture

Bonjour, my name is Maxime. I obtained my name because my grandmother always took me to Maxime’s in Paris for my birthday, always in the company of her best girlfriend! When I was fourteen years old, I was already enamoured with their Parisian chatter. Now, when with friends, I know everything about the art of invisible make-up and light cocktails! The Parisian really has a very distinct character: she’s surprising and interesting. And she’s so feminine! As for invitations, it a real task: each day Paris offers new exhibitions, previews and vernissages. With a Parisian, you absolutely have to be in the right place at the right time!
