A thirty-minute virtual fashion show visible in streaming directed by the French filmmaker Fabien Constant, directed in music by Michel Gaubert and hosted by Derek Blasberg, a cyber socialite who pilots fashion and beauty on Youtube.
Virgil Abloh, Hailey Bieber, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Irina Shayk, Alexander Wang, Joan Smalls, Amber Valletta, Kim Kardashian, Karlie Kloss, Ashley Graham... These names (to name a few) all answered Carine Roitfeld's call to organize this mega CR Runway show, in partnership with Amfar (the American foundation that has been funding AIDS research since 1985 recently created the AmfAR Fund to Fight Covid-19 to support the development of treatments against the coronavirus).
The best models turn houses into runways
40 of the world's best models recreated the runway experience in their kitchens and living rooms for the occasion: Karen Elson walked down a red carpet in her hallway; Lara Stone modeled a tomato red jumpsuit in front of a couch; Eva Herzigová walked down a hallway in a black lace dress and a top hat; Halima Aden filmed herself "parading" on her balcony; Joan Smalls posed in her sun-drenched backyard in Puerto Rico; South Korean model Hyun Ji Shin found an outdoor space for her CR Runway look by choosing casual pants and a top in her own wardrobe. Karlie Kloss, Ashley Graham and Alessandra Ambrósio also participated in each of their homes.
"The casting was a long process," said Carine Roitfeld, bookers of models working from home in several different countries. And with everyone locked in, videos were needed to help the models prepare.
Choreographer Stephen Galloway remotely instructed the models on their walks. Music was important. "We sent them music in advance to give them good energy to walk - the energy is incredible," said Carine Roitfeld.
Filmed on video, the models confined to their homes received advice from hairdresser Sam McKnight and make-up artist Tom Pecheux for their beauty makeover. They then paraded from their homes with pieces from their personal wardrobe selected and styled by Carine Roitfeld's team.
"By making fashion a means of expressing creativity in the service of health and safety around the world, we hope this show will provide a small moment of hope, inspiration and a positive connection," said Carine Roitfeld.
