Roger Vivier is often remembered for dressing a list of exceptional women. Not only did he design the shoes Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II worn in 1953 on her coronation day, he also crafted acclaimed creations for the greatest personalities of his times: the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Soraya of Iran, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot and, of course, Catherine Deneuve in “Belle de Jour”, the film in which the iconic heels featuring the silver buckle made their first appearance. Dive with us into this fascinating story…

In 1924, he began his sculpture studies at the Paris School of Fine Arts, which he abandoned two years later to learn the art of shoemaking and start an apprenticeship. Fascinated by the world of theatre and music halls, Vivier designed some stage decors. Backstage, he met Josephine Baker and Mistinguett, for whom he created custom-made shoes.

Following the success of his footwear creations, in 1937 he opened his first boutique on rue Royale in Paris. Heels were his field of excellence - he was the father to the Aiguille stiletto, launched in 1954, and the sinuous Virgule heel, considered the manifesto of his namesake label since 1963. He was a skilful artisan with a genuine passion for feminine elegance and a flair for elevating shoes to proper works of art, working hand in hand with celebrated French embroidery houses.

In 2018, Gherardo Felloni is appointed Creative Director of Maison Roger Vivier.roger vivier 1 maison-mr-vivier-img-03-mondrian

Born in Tuscany, Gherardo Felloni has already spent a lifetime living and working with shoes and accessories. Since starting in his new role in March 2018, he has brought this vast and unique experience to the Parisian luxury accessories Maison. While he originally planned to be an architect, his father encouraged him to apply his ability to draw the natural world around him to shoes,

“I see the coincidence in a link between architecture and shoe design. Each involves a structure that must be able to hold you inside of it.”

After spending time at his family’s shoe atelier, he continued honing his skills working for some of the leading fashion houses.

Over the past 10 years, he has led footwear, leather goods and accessory design at luxury brands in Paris.

“For me Roger Vivier has always been a source of reference in my work. He was the master of shoes. It’s an honor to work for the Maison”

His love affair with design is influenced by his own personal passion for the arts whether exploring interior design, collection antique jewelry or singing opera as a tenor!

“I love doing many different things”

says the eclectic Ines. This is Ines’ attitude. She is considered natural and accessible - even amongst those with a natural distrust of anyone with aristocratic origins.

Today, at Roger Vivier, Ines represents the sophisticated allure of the Parisian brand as well as the irony and fantasy that contribute to Maison’s unique and inimitable style.

 SINCE 2018

roger vivier vogue

When the sophistication of couture is creatively paired with the energy of running, the outcome is an unexpected mix of Parisian elegance and sporty style. For the first time, Roger Vivier introduces the Viv'Run, a new style of running shoes inspired by one of its most iconic designs – the Belle Vivier - in mesh fabric, net and neoprene.

2018 : coincide with the launch of its Très Vivier styles for the Holiday Season, Roger Vivier introduces a film starring legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve and other colourful characters. Inspired by Rossini’s famous performance piece Duet for Two Cats and directed by award-winning filmmaker, writer and music video director Michael Haussman, the luscious film tells the story of an eccentric Parisian family’s Christmas celebration.roger vivier catherine deneuve belledejour52

At the heart of the collection, the Très Vivier creations continue a long tradition of unapologetic elegance. The large square buckle in polished metal pays tribute to the original legendary pumps worn by Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour, while a myriad of materials and textures brings Vivier sophistication.

Charlotte - Style & fashion

Bonsoir, my name is Charlotte. My mother, ex-model for Saint-Laurent, is American but I’ve lived in Paris since I was 4 years old. Since my mother was often abroad for fashion shows, my French grandmother, a dressmaker for Chanel, taught me the way to become a real Parisian. Today, I’m a wedding-planner and my husband directs a famous fashion magazine. I don’t have to tell you that I have a front seat at all of the fashion shows and I’ve developed a good general culture about fashion. Although I’m the personal shopper for my friends, my strong points are marriage and elegance.
