Roland Mouret the french couturier of the stars...

If you still haven’t heard about Roland Mouret, don’t waste any more time. This jewel of French couture has just been nominated for the 2014 British Fashion Awards in the “Establishment Designer” category. The ceremony will take place in London on December 1st. Personally, I adore this genius of his super-elegant and ultra-contemporary creations and I’m not the only one. Born in Pierrefitte-Nestalas near Lourdes in France, Roland Mouret is now one of the favorite couturiers of stars throughout the world . Good news, the Roland Mouret store open on 1th November 2014 in New York…

Here’s the portrait of a local boy who became a great couturier in London with his brand “RM by Roland
Mouret” and the darling of Nicole
Kidman, Rose Byrne, Victoria Beckham,
Demi Moore and others.

In turn model, stylist for the press, artistic director of a luxury shoemaker, owner of a trendy bar in the London Soho district, Roland Mouret created his first dresses in 1997. The specialized press very quickly took note of his talent and the famous fought over his dresses. The rest is a real fairytale: Scarlett
Johansson, hounded in London by the paparazzi, took refuge in his workshop thinking it was a boutique. Under the charm of his creations, she became his ambassador.

“My masters are Azzedine Alaïa and his sense of glamour, Yohji Yamamoto and his taste for the uniform. When I began to work, I spent three months draping fabric. I created things that looked like their creations, so I threw them all out. Until I obtained something that only looked like me”. “When I started, I didn’t know how to construct a sleeve or a pants crotch so I decided to create dresses. I didn’t have anyone to make the drawings so I decided to drape the fabric on a mannequin, sew the dresses, find ways to avoid using a zipper because I didn’t know how to assemble it. I used hatpins because I found this more French than safety pins. Except that, when friends wore my dresses, the pins often opened when they were getting into a taxi!”. Today, Roland Mouret’s style, strong, sensual, modern and kind to women and their shapes, is reflected in glamorous dresses with semi-poetic, semi-Hollywood names like Galaxy, created in 2005.

2014: a vintage year for the couturier:

In addition to signing a capsule collection for Banana Republic, he opens today, November 10th, his eponymous New York store. Located in the heart of New York’s illustrious Madison Avenue, the 1,400 sq ft retail space will offer Mouret’s iconic designs including ready-to-wear, accessories, and White Collection. “America was the first international market to support me, so it was important for me that it also be the site of my first store outside of the UK. I wanted to create the world of Roland Mouret for amazing American women who want to discover my clothes, to build an atmosphere where they feel relaxed. This is a store but also a home away from home”.
We’re eagerly waiting for the consecration, perhaps and let’s hope next December 1st…

To be continued, Charlotte

Charlotte - Style & fashion

Bonsoir, my name is Charlotte. My mother, ex-model for Saint-Laurent, is American but I’ve lived in Paris since I was 4 years old. Since my mother was often abroad for fashion shows, my French grandmother, a dressmaker for Chanel, taught me the way to become a real Parisian. Today, I’m a wedding-planner and my husband directs a famous fashion magazine. I don’t have to tell you that I have a front seat at all of the fashion shows and I’ve developed a good general culture about fashion. Although I’m the personal shopper for my friends, my strong points are marriage and elegance.

Thanks Sophie for your review. My book ‘Inspired By….’ is an opportunity for me to share artwork and images that I find beautiful and challenging, collected from a variety of personal sources. Creative thoughts compiled as an online diary, directly influencing my work. I hope you enjoy them as much as me. Sincerely, Roland.
