While the town’s streets are being dressed in their hypnotizing festoons, the shops and stores also play their part by bedecking their windows with fir trees and decorations that in many cases can only be described as sensational. The Christmas lights in the Champs Elysées, Avenue Montaigne, Place Vendome, and a host of other famous and historical locations make Paris a more bewitching place than ever!
The Champs Elysées
The “world’s most beautiful avenue” in the limelight. In the festive season, as night falls, districts all over Paris put on their best display of lights. And in the bourgeois eighth arrondissement, a certain Avenue des Champs-Elysées is no exception. Every year, the avenue’s 200 plane trees become the framework for a unique set of illuminations running the whole 2½ kilometres from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde, an ingenious lighting arrangement of scintillating festoons and tree-rings made of red, green, and blue LEDs. Every 30 minutes, the 4,000 festoons and diode rings make a slow, smooth transition from white to violet, then to red. If there's one place you don’t want to miss in Paris at this time of year, it’s the Champs Elysées, shining with the fire of a myriad lights.
